Judan - 10th degree black belt

Peter Kramer was born in Laguna Beach California.  He moved to the Island of Tahiti, capital of French Polynesia,
in 1971 at the age of eight.  Being the only “popaa” (white person) in his new school, and what would seem like the
perfect punching bag for the bullies in his class, he soon gained a desire to learn how to defend himself.

Peter spent much of his years growing up learning as many forms of Martial arts that he could find.
In 1988 the year he met Bujinkan instructor Kevin Millis. Visiting one of his classes is all it took for Peter to realize
that this was the martial art that he had been looking for.

In 1991 Peter achieved the rank of 2nd degree black belt before moving up to Oregon to take a design job at the
Nike world headquarters located in Beaverton. Under the direction of Kevin Millis he began teaching for the first
time. Since then he has continued to teach with only a small break when he was sent to Hong Kong for 2 years to
assist Nike in setting up a design office in Asia.

In 1997 Peter travelled to Japan to take his Godan (5th degree black belt) test under Masaaki Hatsumi. It was
about this same time that he became a personal student of Bill Atkins, one of Hatsumi’s highest ranking master
instructors.

In 2008 Peter returned to Japan to train with Masaaki Hatsumi and many of the Japanese Shihan (Master
Instuctors). It was at this time that he was awarded his Judan (10th degree black belt).

In addition to his martial arts and designing, Peter loves to spend time with his wife and their 5 children. His other
hobbies include Surfing, Kiteboarding, Snowboarding, Rock Climbing, Archery, Ultimate Frisbee, Scuba Diving,
and going on Skateboard rides with his dog Apollo.

Shodan - 1st degree black belt

Like most kids Justin was fascinated with the martial arts at an early age and enrolled in a Tae Kwon Do class at
the age of 'to young to remember'. In his early teens he would spend his money on Soke Hatsumi and Steven K
Hayes books and would devour them, replaying the stories in his head dreaming of faraway Japan.

He had always assumed anyone teaching this stuff had to be hundreds of miles from where he lived and so his
dream stayed just that.....Over the next several years Justin looked through his book collection less and less until
one day he decided to try and look for a school where he could actually learn this stuff he had just been reading
about.

In 2004 he came across the Bujinkan Family Dojo, he sent them an email, was in class the next week and hasn't
left since.

In 2006 he made a dream come true by traveling to Japan to train with Masaak Hatsumi and the Japanese Shihan
(Master instructors). Since then he has made the trip to train in Japan every year.

In November 2008 Justin achieved the rank of shodan (first degree Black Belt) and currently holds that rank.
Justin was promoted to be an instructor in Jan 2009

Justin is a very talented martial artist. He is well loved by the other students and is very patient by nature,
making him an excellent teacher as well.

Nidan - 2nd degree black belt

Ryan was born in San Clemente CA October 1982. His Martial arts training began in CA with an interest in Karate
at age 7 and began training in the Bujinkan Tenchijin Dojo at age 16 in Bend OR.  He continued training with
Lance Bass Shidoshi  (Shadow Warrior Bujinkan Dojo)  as he moved to Eugene OR to study human physiology at
the University of Oregon at age 20.  In 2006 he was awarded the rank of shodan  (1st Degree BB) menkyo in
Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu.  In Jan. 2007 Ryan made his first trip to Japan to train from the source and was awarded
the rank of nidan  (2nd Degree BB)  menkyo from Shiraishi Shihan’s recommendation.  Once deciding to move up
to Portland in July 2007 to pursue a career in Emergency Medical Services, he joined Peter Kramer Shihan and
the Bujinkan Family Dojo. The opportunity the assist in instruction within the Family Dojo has been a blast.

In terms of other martial arts, Ryan has training in Aikido, Brazillian Jiujitsu (Team Megaton), classical Italian
fencing,  Judo (Hwang Martial Arts), and others.  But Ryan is more interested in real martial Arts and exploring the
full spectrum for the rest of his life.  He is also proud to be part of a 900+ year-old tradition that compounds the
experience of men and women in the form of oral transmission.

Godan - 5th degree black belt

Ryan was first introduced to Bujinkan while a student at the University of Arizona.  Incidentally, he was interested in
starting another martial art but came across a Bujinkan Dojo and was so impressed by the martial art and sincerity
of the instructors that he was hooked.  It was there that he began training at the Yamaneko Dojo under Jeffrey
Prather in 2001.

While continuing to train at the dojo, in 2004 Ryan was honored to step into the roles of Club President and
Instructor of the Bujinkan Martial Arts Club at the University of Arizona, a university sponsored club run under the
direction of the Yamaneko Dojo in Tucson.  During this time Ryan also taught Budo Taijutsu to middle school
students as a volunteer at a weekly after school program.

In 2005, Ryan moved to the Florida panhandle to begin his engineering career.  There was no Bujinkan Dojo in the
area so at his teacher’s request Ryan established a “shibu” (branch dojo) of the Yamaneko Dojo and taught
regular classes at a local YMCA.

After his first trip to Japan to train with the Grandmaster and other Japanese instructors in 2006, Ryan decided to
“take the leap” and in February 2007 moved to Japan.  Life in Japan was full of cultural insights and the wonders of
training with the Grandmaster and Japanese instructors.  During this time Ryan also received his Godan (5th
degree blackbelt) and is a licensed Shidoshi (instructor).

In April 2009, Ryan’s time in Japan came to an end and he returned to the US, this time making his home in
Portland.  He is happy to be a part of the Bujinkan Family Dojo and feels at home with the family atmosphere at the
BFD.
